Here are some frequently asked questions:
Fancy football is a type of fantasy football game played via weekly DraftKings contests. If your unclear how DraftKings works, there's plenty of information on their website and elsewhere. The basic idea is that you draft a team of players each week on your own time and compete against other players to win cash prizes. Instead of just playing this via isolated weekly contests, Fancy Football allows you to play in a season-long league with your friends. No money is put into DraftKings. Each Fancy Football league has an entry fee that is paid to the league manager. The league manager then pays out the winners at the end of the season.
Each week, the top half of the contest will make money. Each year the payouts vary depending on the number of teams in the league and the entry fee. Typically, everyone in
the top half earns $5, with the top X players scaling up to $70 or more. Second place may earn $45, third place $30, etc. The league manager will determine the payouts before
the season starts.
Additionally, placing in the top half of the week will count as a win. This will raise your standing in the league and help you make the playoffs, or increase your odds in
the playoffs. Playoff structure also varies year-to-year. Playoffs will run during the actual NFL playoffs, and the top 5 teams or so will get paid out a decent sum.
Not much happens. You'll get a 0 for the week, which will hurt your chances of making the playoffs. Try again next week.
League communication and links to the weekly contest are given out through the Signal app. You'll also need, of course, a DraftKings account. You do not need any money in your DraftKings account. The league manager will collect the entry fee separately. For your own benefit, you may also want to create a Fancy Football account.
Unfortunately, not much can be done unless you know someone in a legal state who can play for you. If you're travelling for one week, you may want to give someone your username and password to submit a lineup for you.
Not really. The only rule is that users are not allowed to pay for any website or service that provides them with an advantage in the league. This includes, but is not
limited to, any site that provides projections, rankings, or other tools that are not available to the general public. This is to keep the league fair and fun for everyone.
Reading articles on subscription sites is fine, as long as the information is not used to gain an unfair advantage. E.g. if you have an Apple News+ subscription, you can
read their articles.
For what it's worth, the general consensus is that these are not worth the money anyways.
Default DraftKings scoring and lineup composition is used.
The sort order is as follows:
- Number of wins (top half finishes)
- Number of crowns (1st place finishes)
- Total points scored
- Coin flip
The sort order is as follows:
- Points, of course
- Chalk rating (see below). The lower, the better.
- Coin flip
Chalk rating is a measure of the uniqueness of your lineup within the league. If there were 50 people in the league and every player you picked was unique, your chalk rating would be 18.0 since each of the 9 players in your lineup was picked 2% of the time.
Badges are awarded for various achievements throughout the season. They are displayed on your profile page as well as each user's page. Read more about them here.
If your logged in, this is the number of Fancy Coins you have tied to your account. This is a currency gained weekly for various achievements or placements. You can spend them in the Fancy Football Shop.

Welp, this would suck. If this happens, the league manager will try to find a solution. If no solution can be found, the league will be disbanded. Players will be paid out based on their current earnings, and the rest of the money will be split evenly.
